Description:

Campground information:

The Mesa Campground at Alabaster Caverns is in the immediate area of a comfort station with hot-water pay showers and the nearby park office. Campsites 1 thru 9 are on a tree-lined loop with level, concrete pads and asphalt approaches. Site 10 is on the outside of the loop, completely surrounded by trees, with an asphalt pad and approach. The handicap-accessible pad is a pull-through site with level concrete pad, asphalt approaches and 50-amp electrical service. This site has a few small trees nearby.

A playgroup near the Mesa Campground with a rock climbing wall, swings and a slide is available for younger guests. Picnic tables and covered shelters are perfect for enjoying a relaxing meal in the outdoors. The park office has a gift shop filled with memorabilia available for purchase.

The highlight of the 200-acre Alabaster Caverns State Park is the cavern formed of alabaster, a rare form of gypsum, making it the largest natural gypsum cave in the world that is open to the public and the only gypsum show cave in the United States. Daily guided tours are offered from 9am-4pm where guests can enjoy a year-round average temperature of 55 degrees. Other recreational activities offered at Alabaster Caverns include hiking trails and wild-cave exploration in season, by permit only.
